Event Details

The Club is a co-organiser (along with Rotary Club of Cockburn Inc.) of the annual Coogee Jetty to Jetty” swim and walk event . Almost all members are involved in some capacity on the day of the event, with a sub-committee organising all aspects of next year's swim almost as soon as the current swim is completed.

The Coogee Jetty to Jetty event is a special community event which provides a great opportunity for participants to take part as well as raising funds for local community projects administered through Cockburn Masters and Rotary Club of Cockburn. This achievement was recognised formally through the event being awarded the "Premier's Australia Day ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP Award for a community group or event " at the 2009 Australia Day ceremony at the City of Cockburn.

The event is held on the 1st Sunday in March following the Labour Day long weekend and is a very popular part of the annual OWS calendar because it takes place in the clear sheltered waters between Coogee Beach and Woodman Point. It starts with a 1,500m walk along the beach (or 750m for the less ambitious) and then a swim back. This combined walk and swim event is one of those rare family and community events with competitors ranging from 8 years through to 85 years old.

2012 Event Details & Registrations

This year's event is being held on Sunday 11th March 2012, with the City of Cockburn generously supporting the event as the major naming rights sponsor.

After incorporating electronic timing and wave starts last year in response to the enormous growth in the number of entrants taking part in recent years, we will again be using Blue Chip Timing and look to make further improvements this year in the finishing systems.

As in previous years. merchandise (t-shirts and towels) are available to purchase during the online registration process.

Supporting Heart Foundation (WA)

Last year, the event supported Heart Foundation (WA) and we will be continuing this fantastic innovation again in 2012.

All entrants will again be able to donate or fundraise by setting up their own fundraising webpage or joining the Coogee J2J Fundraising Team page. Last year almost $3,000 was donated through the event to Heart Foundation (WA) and we hope to exceed this target in 2012.

We are pleased to support the Heart Foundation again this year, but they need your support as well.   The Heart Foundation is Australia’s leading not-for-profit heart health organisation, working since 1959 to build community awareness about heart disease.  Every year, on average, more than 46,000 Australians die from heart disease, stroke or diseases of the blood vessels - that’s a life lost almost every 10 minutes.  The Heart Foundation saves lives and improves health through funding world-class cardiovascular research, developing guidelines for health professionals, informing the public and assisting people with cardiovascular disease.  As a charity, the Heart Foundation relies on donations to continue its lifesaving research, education and health promotion work.
For more information about the Heart Foundation and its vital heart health work visit www.heartfoundation.org.au .   If you wish to make a donation or fundraise online as part of this event visit www.everydayhero.com.au/event/jettytojetty2012
